Can I make a CICA claim?

If you have lost a loved one as a result of a violent crime our specialist solicitors could help you claim compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).

For a CICA criminal injury compensation claim to stand a chance of being successful, you must have reported the incident to the police and fully co-operated with them.

To be eligible for compensation under the CICA scheme the following apply:

  • You have been the blameless victim of a violent crime.
  • The crime or assault must have happened in England, Wales or Scotland.
  • The incident must have been reported to the police as soon as practically possible.
  • If you were an adult at the time of the incident, you should make a claim within two years of the date of the incident, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Every year we help thousands of people to achieve successful criminal injury claims and recover the highest levels of assault compensation they are entitled to, from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).

The first step is to get in touch with us and one of our criminal injury claim experts can conduct a free, confidential, no-obligation, No Win No Fee consultation with you.

How to Make a Criminal Injury Compensation Claim

Our team of Criminal Injury claim experts will liaise with you about what happened so they can see if a claim may be possible.

The first step is to call our Criminal Injury Team, or to fill in the Online Form below.

The information you share with us is always treated confidentially and would only be used by our solicitors in dealing with your claim.

We will be with you every step of the way to guide you through the process.

How much compensation will I get?

Compensation for CICA claims is set at fixed levels depending on the type of injuries and trauma you have suffered.

The minimum amount of compensation the CICA scheme awards is £1,000, and this rises up to £500,000 for the most serious injuries.

When we evaluate your claim we will be able to tell you how much compensation you should be eligible for.

How much will making a claim cost?

We undertake all CICA claims on a No Win No Fee basis which offers you peace of mind in knowing that you will not have to pay any money up front and there will be no financial risk if your case is unsuccessful.

If your case is successful, you will only be expected to pay a contribution to your solicitor’s fees once the case has been resolved. The costs paid are usually a percentage of the compensation awarded and will always be agreed with you, before your claim proceeds.

Expert CICA Claim Management

With our dedicated Criminal Injury Compensation Team we will expertly manage your CICA claim from start to finish.

We can also evaluate an (unsettled) existing CICA claim you may have made to ensure it has been completed and managed effectively.

From liaising with all relevant parties, gathering any additional evidence, to regularly chasing the claims’ progress through to offer, we will keep you informed at every stage.
